
Mounjaro injections (now commonly known to assist weight loss) are now available to be offered and prescribed on the NHS by the GP. However it is only available to those that fit a specific criteria. Please see below for more information on this, or you can visit the NHS site.
Who is eligible?
As part of the phased roll out, Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) will only initially be offered to adults meeting the following criteria:
- Must have a BMI equal to or over 40
In addition to this, must have at 4 of the 5 health conditions as confirmed diagnoses:
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Hypertension (consistent high blood pressure)
- Dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol)
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
Who should not take Mounjaro
- Anyone under the age of 18
- People who are pregnant or breast feeding
- People with personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- People with Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
- People with a hypersensitivity to Tirzepatide or any of its components
What if my BMI is below 40?
If your BMI is below 40 you are not eligible for Mounjaro on the NHS at the current time, however we can offer you referral and advice with regards to weight management.
What do I need to do?

Before this, please ensure we have an up to date BMI noted on your records. If we do not hold this information then please book an appointment to have your height, weight and BMI calculated with one of our Health Care Assistants.
